ABOUT NADASS
Across the galaxy, in the Kepler System, is a planet we humans call Kepler 452b. The natives of the planet call it Ninga, and themselves Ningans. These carbon-based lifeforms resemble humans in almost every way, though their culture is slightly more advanced.Once contact was made between Earth and Ninga, it was decided that Ninga would send a representative to Earth as a sort of cultural exchange, fact finding mission. Nadass Vihalen was chosen to be that representative, due to her extensive background researching the history and culture of the various nations of Ninga. She now lives among the humans on Earth, learning about us and studying our culture, compiling her findings to be reported back to Ninga periodically.
She tours Earth as a cultural ambassador, visiting every country she can, giving speeches and meeting with world leaders. She keeps extensive notes of her travels, with photos and pages upon pages of writing. Recipes, songs, histories written and oral. Everything that makes Earth unique finds its way into her notes.
There was a lot of press coverage when she first arrived, but by this point, three years into her mission, most Earthlings have forgotten she exists. She looks hardly any different from the average human, merely a little denser and with green-tinged blood. She uses this fact to her advantage, doing her best to blend into the cities and towns she visits so as to get an accurate view of what life is like, rather than just the polished view the government wants her to see.
INTERSTELLAR CONNECTIONS
For information on the Fermi Paradox (aka if there are SO MANY possible worlds out there with the possibility of intelligent life, why have we not found any before now?), check out this breakdown of theories. For the purpose of this character world/universe, the following is true (I'll be using terminology from the above link, for reference):
- Earth is a Type 0.75 civilization, not fully able to harness all the power of its planet.
- Ninga is a Type 1.25 civilization, fully able to harness all the power of its planet, working on harnessing the power of its star.
- The Great Filter, which separates us from Type II and III civilizations, exists, but neither Earth nor Ninga has reached it yet.
- Ninga is slightly older than Earth and therefore slightly more advanced, but relatively speaking, they developed in parallel.
- The reason there was no contact between the two planets before now is because Earth and Ningan technologies were too different to recognize each other, and both planets were barely beginning interstellar travel.
RANDOM
- Alcohol and caffeine are considered addictive drugs on Ninga and are therefore illegal.
- After coming to Earth, Nadass was hesitant to try caffeine/alcohol, due to the Ningans' view on them. She eventually relented and has since become addicted to coffee.
- Nadass is a common girl's name on Ninga, like Sarah or Jennifer.
- Ningans can be born in four biological sexes. Essentially: Male (ပ - he/him/his), Female (ဂ - she/her/hers), Both (လ - zey, zem, zeir), or Neither (ဝ they/them/their). Here is a visual of the approximate population breakdown by gender. Gender assigned at birth solely has to do with what reproductive anatomy the child is born with. Some Ningans live as genders other than those they were assigned at birth. There are very few societal gender roles imposed upon any particular gender.
- The majority of Ningans are pansexual, however it is not uncommon for individuals to have a certain preference in terms of gender or expression.
- When a couple on Ninga that consists of two individuals who cannot conceive desires to have a child, adoption and surrogacy are two common pathways they can explore.
- Ningans have a broader view of attraction and relationships, and in addition to gender/presentation preferences, have five classifications for different types of love and affection.
- Familial: Love between family members.
- Romantic: Emotional love of a non-related person.
- Sexual: Physical attraction to another person.
- Platonic: Love between friends.
- Working: Love between a teacher & student, boss & employee, or mentor & mentee.
Ningans can experience different types of love for different people, often in combinations of multiple classifications. When a Ningan describes their sexuality, they include which type of love or relationships they prioritize in their life.
- Nadass prioritizes Familial and Working relationships above the other classifications.
- In preparation for her mission to Earth, Nadass learned English as well as some Chinese and Spanish. She also speaks four languages native to Ninga.
- Ninga has six inhabvited continents, each with their own government and culture/language, as well as uninhabited ice caps on the North and South poles. Nadass comes from the continent of Belan and is therefore Belani.
- The six inhabited continents of Ninga are: Graehi in the North, Soter in the East, Chowa in the South, Belan in the West, Mayna in the center, and the island nation of Pil.
- Though most Ningans are accepting of others no matter what, Pili citizens tend to hold more conservative social views than the rest of Ninga. It is not uncommon for people with conservative views to move to Pil, or for Pili-born citizens who hold more liberal views to move away from their homeland.
- The Belani language that Nadass speaks most closely resembles Earth languages like Japanese or Korean in that it has a phonetic alphabet as well as a logographic writing system where characters are used to represent words or morphemes.
- Ningans are carbon based lifeforms and are compatible with humans in every way.
because that makes rp easier - Nadass had a pet donjon on Ninga, which is a semiaquatic mammal (kind of like an otter).
- Nadass' favorite dessert is pilan, which is like ice cream but more flavorful.
APPEARANCE
Ningans look just like humans do, only because their world/species/ civilization has been around longer, there has been more intermixing between races. It's rare to find a Ningan these days who is all one ethnicity instead of a mix. They tend to have tanned skin and dark hair, but there are ranges and outliers still. They are also denser/heavier and stronger than humans tend to be, due to the fact that their planet is more massive.Ningan blood is darker than human blood, and slightly greener because it's copper based, and as such, when they blush, they turn olive rather than pink.
Nadass is approximately 5'8"/170cm tall, which is average height for a Ningan female her age. She has long brown hair, tan skin, and dark eyes. She weighs approximately 198lbs/90kg but looks about 75lbs lighter, due to her denser body structure.

Campaigners (ENFPs) are true free spirits – outgoing, openhearted, and open-minded. With their lively, upbeat approach to life, they stand out in any crowd. But even though they can be the life of the party, Campaigners don’t just care about having a good time. These personality types run deep – as does their longing for meaningful, emotional connections with other people.
PERSONALITY
Nadass' number one character trait is curiosity. She has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, specifically the histories and backgrounds of the people and places around her. She has always been fascinated by cultural histories, and made it her life's work, even before Ninga and Earth discovered each other. She was published in anthropological journals on Ninga by the age of 24, and by the time she was selected to become the Ningan Cultural Ambassador to Earth, had written comprehensive histories of each of Ninga's six nations. She picks up languages the way other people pick up stones. As of her current canon point, she is fluent in four languages native to Ninga, as well as English, Spanish, and some Mandarin. She knows bits and pieces of countless other languages, just enough to introduce herself and give thanks to the people hosting her.Nadass is patient to a fault. She would always rather understand a problem than confront it. She is wholly a noncombatant, and while she has had some basic training in self defense, fighting would never be her first thought. She carries a sense of worldly experience, and yet also a certain amount of innocence, as someone who is still learning how Earth works.
It is of utmost importance to Nadass for her to remain neutral in her treatment of the people and cultures she meets on Earth. She has always strove to treat everyone equally and fairly, without favoritism or judgment. This applies both to other Ningans like her, and to the people she interviews on Earth. Early on in her mission, both the Catholic Pope and the head of the Church of Scientology attempted to convert Nadass to their respective religions, thinking that counting the first alien to visit Earth as a member of their congregation would be an incredible publicity move. She politely declined them both, of course, unwilling to show preference to any one Earth group or religion.
Nadass has never been a religious person, even before coming to Earth. She has done extensive research into her world's creation mythology, and enjoys the stories from an intellectual perspective rather than one of belief. She accepts the religious beliefs of other people, and appreciates that people's spirituality brings them a sense of belonging and comfort, but feels no such predilections herself. She has too much of a scientific, academic mindset to put her faith in any sort of myth, legend, or magic.
Even before beginning her mission to Earth, Nadass was never very good at forming close relationships with people. Part of it comes from her academic view of all her interactions; she holds herself at arm's length, viewing the people around her as subjects of study, rather than as potential friends. Which is not to say she thinks of herself as being any better than anyone else, as though she were Jane Goodall and the rest of the world are chimpanzees. She simply is too academically curious not to learn as much as she can from each encounter. It's hard for her to "turn off" that side of her, and just relax and be herself.
This is part of why Nadass has never had any significant romantic or sexual relationships. She's had a few partners, sure, but the partnership always ended with Nadass not being able to truly open up and share herself with her lovers. The exceptions to this rule are Nadass' family members-- her two moms, her younger brother and his wife (and their young child)-- and her mentor, Kothric Belan. Kothric and Nadass first met when she was in post-graduate school, working on getting her research published for the first time. Kothric had been assigned as essentially her advisor, given his own extensive background with the continent of Belan which was the focus of Nadass' research at the time. He was the first person outside of her family who pierced through her distant shell and got to know the real Nadass. In time, Nadass came to think of him as much more than an advisor, but as a sort of paternal figure and friend. It was Kothric who set Nadass upon the path to being selected to become Ninga's Cultural Ambassador to Earth.
During her time on Earth, it's been easy for Nadass to fall back into keeping everyone at arm's length. Or, rather, her constant schedule of unceasingly touring different parts of Earth has made it difficult for her to form lasting relationships. One person who she did manage to remain in touch with was Dana Michelson, a young woman who worked on the team of scientists that helped forge the connection between Earth and Ninga. The pair of them instantly hit it off when Nadass first arrived on Earth, and Nadass ended up in a whirlwind fling with Dana before the business of her mission began. However, the two soon discovered they were a bit too alike in personality, and resolved to remain just friends. Nadass still sees Dana from time to time, when she sends her periodic reports back to Ninga every six months or so, and revisits the site of her arrival on Earth. Dana has helped introduce Nadass to certain aspects of Earth culture that she may have otherwise not gotten a chance to experience, such as deep dish pizza, cocktails, and pop music. Nadass trusts Dana perhaps more than she trusts anyone else on Earth.

You smile back. «Good morning, Solen-na.»
The rest of your ride is relatively quiet, and as you drive past sweeping alien architecture, the sky begins to lighten to a pale pink, and finally a pleasant blue dotted with clouds. After a long, peaceful drive, free from any traffic due to the early hour, you arrive at your destination, an active complex near the ocean that is littered with people beginning their day. Most if not all of the people here are in uniform, whether it's one more formal like yours or coveralls and helmets denoting a position of manual labor. No one pays you much attention here, as you are simply one among many, all focused on their duties this morning.

You enter a large building which looks like a series of domes piled together, and take an elevator up to a higher floor. Once there, you pause to look out at the view in front of you of what looks a bit like the tarmac of an airport crossed with a bustling shipyard. There, parked off to one side, is a space ship being checked over by a team of skilled technicians in the coveralls you saw earlier. (Your ship. That's your ship, or it will be, once it's ready.)
YES, ORIK-ANEM, I AM READY
TO FLY.
A voice calls out from behind you and turns your attention away from the window. «Good morning, Vihalen-na. Are you ready to begin?»TO FLY.
An older woman stands before you, in a similar uniform to yours, only more decorated with medals of achievement. She is your boss, one of the leaders of your mission. You hold a great deal of respect for her accomplishments in logistics and science.
You stand as straight as you can and smile at her. «Yes, Orik-anem, I am ready to fly.»
